The cut

What a skin fade is

A skin fade takes the sides and back down to bare skin, then blends up into longer hair on top. The result is a sharp, clean contrast that shows off the shape of the cut.

The blend is the hard part. A good fade has no visible lines between lengths, and that takes time and a steady hand. That's why a skin fade at Masters Barber & Shave is given about 45 minutes, and every barber in the shop cuts them.

Choose your height

Low, mid, or high fade

Low fade

Starts just above the ears and neckline. Subtle, and the easiest to wear to work.

Mid fade

Starts around the temples. The most popular middle ground, with clear contrast that still looks balanced.

High fade

Starts near the top of the head. Bold and high-contrast, and it pairs well with a longer top.

FAQ

Common questions

How much is a skin fade in Thousand Oaks?

At Masters Barber & Shave, a skin fade is $45 and takes about 45 minutes, and all four of our barbers cut them. A standard haircut is also $45. Adding a beard trim or lineup starts at $15. You'll see the final price on your barber's booking page before you confirm.

What's the difference between a fade and a taper?

A fade blends the hair on the sides and back down to the skin, so the shortest point shows bare skin. A taper shortens the hair gradually but leaves some length at the neckline and around the ears. A taper looks softer and grows out more slowly. A fade gives a sharper contrast.

How often should I get my fade touched up?

Because the shortest part of a skin fade sits right at the skin, it's usually the first thing to look grown out. Many people book a touch-up every two to three weeks to keep the blend clean. Your barber can suggest a schedule based on how fast your hair grows.

Can I walk in for a skin fade?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Saturday, but we always recommend booking an appointment when you can. A skin fade takes about 45 minutes, so booking ahead is the surest way to get the time and barber you want. Book online or call or text (805) 701-8656.
